ABSTRACT

Introduction: In Guinea, potato cultivation offers many advantages. From an agronomic point of view, it is easy to grow and its yield potential is relatively high. Objective: The present study is part of the valorization of the products resulting from the transformation of biodegradable waste as alternative products to chemical fertilizers. Methods: The compost used was prepared by the ANDAIN method to fertilize an experimental field of 750 m² in the sub-prefecture of Timbi-Madina.  Three doses of fine compost of 20 mm diameter were applied to the field over three cropping seasons. The optimal dose of compost is 12 tons per hectare with a yield of 68 tons of potatoes per hectare with an added value of 14 tons compared to the use of chemical fertilizer whose average yield is 54 tons per hectare. Conclusion: This study shows that the compost produced by Waste Management Research Center (CREGED) could be an alternative to the use of chemical fertilizers in potato production in order to initiate an intelligent and more ecological agriculture.
