ABSTRACT

Background:
Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis are methods that data most past through in order to achieve a sound data reliability and well robust measurement model before the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) can be conducted for the hypotheses testing under investigation. Objective: The objective of this study is to validate the instruments of this research work by conducting Exploratory Factor Analysis/Pilot Study and Confirmatory Factor Analysis/Measurement Model. Methods: Kano State, Nigeria was used as a case study to this research work. Sample size of 310 respondents were scientifically selected randomly through Krejcie and Morgan 1970 table of sample size determination out of the population of 1530 registered Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) in Kano State, Nigeria that were used for the Measurement Model and Structural Model of this study while 120 respondents are selected for the Pilot Study in the same study area. Questionnaire serves as the method of data collection for this study. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) through Analysis of Moment Structure (AMOS) Software was employed in the analysis while Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) was used in the analysis of the Pilot Study. Results: In the Pilot Study all the constructs prove one single dimension, no items was deleted, and all the constructs shows acceptable internal reliability of the items. Therefore, the instruments are recommended for further analysis. In addition it was found that some items were deleted as a result of low factor loading and redundant items in the measurement model. Conclusion: in order to achieve the unidimensionality, validity and reliability of the measurement model it most pass through modifications. In essence the measurement model is fit after purification and modification has been conducted, and the model fit the empirical data. Therefore, in conclusion the measurement model is accepted and suitable for further analysis known as the structural equation modeling (SEM)/Structural Model.
